Balbacua At Ili-Likha Artist Village

Balbacua is a popular slow-cooked meat dish in Southern Philippines made from ox tail and beef. The one I ate had tripe so the meat ingredients are similar to that of kare-kare.

It was literally a cold and rainy night in Baguio when we came across Ili-Likha Artist Village along Assumption Road. We're not really hungry but we seek refuge from the rain so we entered the labyrinth village of cafes and restos.

A serving of Balbacua is around P60 and for an extra P10 you can add egg or rice or more meat. Hubby and I opted for Balbacua only since its the first time that we came across that dish. The broth is flavorful not only from the meat but because of the herbs and spices. Adding some "punch" are the peppercorns in the broth. Really, so perfect for that chilly night in Baguio.

Will post about Ili-Likha on Viva Manilena.

Daughter had the chicken karaage because she's craving for rice. This costs P70. Still cheap but look at the veggies and red rice. So healthy!

We also had the ube shake. Now this costs pricier than the Balbacua, I think almost a P100 but it was so creamy and ube-good!

And because its a chilly night, daughter had a cup of hot cocoa (P40) and some chocolates (P10/3 pieces). Not bad although not that memorable either.
