World Street Food Congress 2017

Foodies, get ready and be excited for the World Street Food Congress 2017 (WSFC). For the second time, the Philippines is hosting the World Street Food Congress although the venue this year is at the concert grounds of SM Mall of Asia. WSFC is an international gathering of the purveyors of street food headed by KF Seetoh of Makansutra in Singapore.

I came prepared this year and even attended the World Street Food Dialogue. I got to hear Anton Diaz of, KF Seetoh, Andy Yang, Chef Nga from Vietnam, Chef Claude Tayag, and other guests.

Of course, the main event for me is the food jamboree. There are 28 food hawker stalls this year- Singapore, Japan, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mexico, USA, Germany, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and of course, from the Philippines. Sharing the jamboree map and guidelines. Btw, entrance fee to the food jamboree is P150. The entrance fee is redeemable in any of the food / drinks stalls.  Price range of food is P130-P380, with a few exceptions that cost P400-500. Gates to the food jamboree for May 31- June 2 is from 4pm to 11pm and on June 3, it will open at 1pm to 11pm; and on June 4, food jamboree time is 1pm to 9pm.

Here are some of the scene at the food jamboree on Day 1. People started lining up as soon as it was announced that the stalls will start serving food by 4pm.

One of the popular stall is the one selling Putu Mayam from Malaysia. It is a snack made from rice noodles.

Chef Ah Yau with his famous salted egg pork ribs and cereal chicken. My daughter said that the salted egg pork is her favorite.

Gooey and mouthwatering Oyster Omelette from the Taiwanese food stall.

This is interesting. Coffee Ribs Burger. Haven't tasted this yet, will update.

And our very own Ilocos Empanada. Deep-fried and golden. Perfect with local vinegar. Yum!

And amongst all the food I've tried at the WSFC17, this Martabak Manis really, really made me happy. Martabak is an Indonesia pancake-like dessert. Actually, this was served during the WSFC last year but I wasn't able to try it so it was one of the food stalls that I visited first. And it was so good especially the red velvet slices. It comes in 4 flavors and a whole serving costs P500 while four slices cost P280 if I'm not mistaken. Of course I wasn't able to finish all of it except for the red velvet so I brought it home and place it inside the fridge. Ate it again for breakfast and I like it better when its cold. Must-try at the World Street Food Congress 2017.
