After years of planning, Team Kapusa was able to go on an out-of-the-country foodtrip for the first time. It was way past midnight when we landed at KLIA2 and we were quite starving by then. we didn't get to eat dinner during our flight because we are all eager to savor the dishes sold at Kuala Lumpur's street market.
Lucky for us, we didn't have to take a cab to satisfy our tummies after checking-in our hotel. There's a streetfood area just several meters away from our hotel in Bukit Bintang district. Yey!
The place (and neighborhood) was kinda deserted though since its already 2am but we can't ignore our grumbling tummies. Never mind if the only other table occupied in the streetfood area are full of men drinking beer and watching soccer on the telly.
So here's what we ordered after looking at the menu.
Nasi Goreng Seafood (RM7.50). My friends ordered this. They were trying to make me have at least a spoonful but since I don't eat rice anymore, I just ate the shrimps! Hahaha. Anyways, the plate of nasi goreng is good for sharing so they all had several spoonfuls. And they were quite happy with the nasi goreng. Thumbs up!
Kuey Teow Goreng Seafood (RM7.50). I was quite excited to order this because I've tasted Mee Siam for the first time at the World Streetfood Congress 2016 which was held in Manila last April and I was smitten by its flavors. Although I haven't seen Mee Siam itself on the menu, Kuey Teow Goreng is the closest substitute and I'm so happy with this noodle dish. We requested the waiter for the just-a-bit spicy version. I mean, it was technically our first day in KL and we don't want to take risk in upsetting our tummies (not to mention that it's also 2am). I can't seem to describe how wonderful the sauce was- there's that perfect balance of sweet, spicy, salty, and smoky flavor that tickles the palate. I'd also like to note that there's a generous amount of shrimp and squid. Serving is good for 2-3 pax. This was really a memorable dish for me that I brought some home for my family. Hand-carried with love from KL. :D
Tomyam Seafood (RM7.50). My friend loves tom yum's so she ordered this. I can't compare it to Bangkok's tom yum because this version is a whole new experience by itself. The flavor of the broth is both rich and earthy, wakes up the senses and made me want to finish the whole bowl. Which I did since my friends doesn't have that much of an early morning appetite.
This is the name of the streetfood seller where we had our first meal in KL. The waiter and owner doesn't speak that much English so you have to check the pictures or make a list (like what I did) of the food that you want to eat when visiting a foreign place.
As for drinks, we tried their longan and lychee drink but it was basically a syrup-y drink with a few pieces of longan and lychee. Better ask for bottled water or a soda.

Malaysian food are very flavorful. I personnally like tomyam.

ReplyDeleteWhat i love about Malaysia is the food. So flavorful. Chili kung chili. We ate at a food court type eatery and almost flod offerings are maanghang. Their servings though are very generous.
