SM Market's The Tasting Corner

Hie off to SM Markets because they'll be serving some samples of premium wines and spirits at the Tasting Corner in selected branches of SM Markets. This is the consumers' chance to sample different drinks in its "perfect serve" form.

"Perfect Serve" refers to the manufacturers recommended way of serving their wines and premium spirits. Like for example, do you know that Hennessy VS is best mixed with ginger ale and a slice of lime? Or what about Tequilla? Jose Cuervo actually recommends that the Tequilla be chilled to reach that exact temperature and then taken straight up? Cheers!

For hardcore whisky drinkers, it is common knowledge to enjoy their drinks "on the rocks." But did you know that Johnnie Walker actually recommends mixing it with ginger ale or cola? As for wines, Carlo Rossi and Los Cardos recommends that their wines be chilled before serving.

For some, drinking wines or premium spirits may be a daunting experience especially if you are to order it for the first time, say in a restaurant. But thanks to SM Markets' Tasting Corner, one gets to sample these "perfect serve" drinks for free and even get to know more wine and spirits 101.

"The main objective of the Tasting Corner is to give our valued customers a new shopping experience at SM Markets' Wine & Liquor Section," says Antonio Villasenor, CEP of Blue Mountain, the exclusive distributor of wines and spirits in all SM Markets. "We are giving them a unique opportunity to know top wine, liquor, and beer brands with the help of our Brand Ambassadors who will not just share their expertise but let them taste the liquor themselves; so they may compare and pick which brand suits them the most."

The Tasting Corner is a pop-up store in selected SM Supermarkets and Hypermarkets from August 16 to November 8, 2018. Customers can sample the "perfect serve" of Johnnie Walker, Hennessy, Jose Cuervo, Fundador, Carlo Rossi and Los Cardos. Aside from drink samples, the Tasting Corner offers discounts and prizes such as Johnnie Walker SM 60th anniversary commemorative bottles.

Ilustrado Restaurant Anniversary Degustation

Jose Rizal and the Spanish era are synonymous with the word Ilustrado but for me, what comes to mind is this restaurant in Intramuros, Manila. Coincidentally though, Intramuros was once called the Walled City and is rich in history and glamor of the bygone days when Spain ruled the country. Visiting Intramuros is like a history lesson itself and dining at Ilustrado is the cherry on top.

As Ilustrado Restaurant celebrates its 29th anniversary this October, it brings back the specially curated 8-course Ilustrado Degustation by Chef Bernice Pimentel.

"This year, 2019 marks the third year that we have been doing an anniversary degustation and this year, I am not only bringing forth our culinary heritage to the present but also incorporating much more local ingredients," says Chef Bernice.

Fat Fook Manila

Fat Fook Manila, the restaurant that's been making foodies excited with its Taiwanese noms opened its latest branch at The Globe Tower in BGC. The restaurant which has a seating capacity of about 40, also has a dedicated take-out counter should you have cravings for yummy Taiwanese snacks.

There's a lot of interesting noms from the menu but here are my favorites:

Taiwanese Sausage on sticks. I've been hearing about this amazing sausages from my friends who has been to Taiwan and its on the must-try list. And thanks to Fat Fook Manila, I don't have to fly to Taiwan to enjoy these sausages. It tastes sweet but the meat is firm and not as oily as our local sausage (longganisa). The garlic inserted on the sausages looks weird but it adds some flavor to it. I'm guessing that this sausages are best paired with a bottle of beer. ;)
