Pad Thai at Khao San Night Market

Going to Bangkok is not complete without experiencing its numerous night markets. You can either go shopping or eat. In my case, I've been to two different night markets in a span of two days. The first one was at Pat Pong- read more about our first taste of Pad Thai at Tip Top Asian Dining & Grill in Pat Pong Night Market.

I was checking the food stalls and the restaurants along Khao San Road and there are many food to choose from. There's even a pizza place, Starbucks, and Burger King. But the foodie in me won so I know I have to eat pad thai from a street vendor. :D

Summer Means Halo-Halo and Ice Cream Fun

School's over in Manila so we are officially welcoming in the Summer Season and what better way to celebrate the "hot" season by having some halo-halo and other cold creations.

Topping my list of "cool" favorites is Mitre's halo halo. I love the homemade ube ice cream on top and the leche flan and how the other ingredients seem to balance the sweetness.

Another Friday(s) Night

My mommymates and I had several dinner dates at TGI Fridays (Robinsons Manila) already but what endears us to the place was the happy and sad times that we share here as friends. Our latest had a crazy mix of tear and laughter but not to worry because its not food related. As always, the food and service made us happy.

Calamares. This is a nice pair for a chikahan-filled dinner.

A Taste of Christmas

I had an Anton Ego moment when I had my first spoon of Fog City Creamery's Fruits & Nuts Deluxe Ice Cream and Christmas came to my mind. And I love Christmas, and have many happy memories of it especially during my childhood years. Like being surrounded by my whole family, opening presents and eating fruit cakes. I grew up with the notion that Christmas and fruitcakes are the perfect pair. My mother and aunts made the fruitcakes themselves. Alas, the fruit cake tradition ended when all sorts of chocolate cakes become popular and much more affordable. So I was really happy when I tasted the Fruits & Nuts Deluxe because it brings back memories of Christmas.

But what makes this ice-cream special is the fact that Fog City Creamery teamed up with Emperador Deluxe Spanish Edition to create this superb tasting ice-cream.

Leaning Tower of Golden Spoon

Going to Golden Spoon Shangri-La Plaza branch is a current fave hangout place for me and daughter. I guess its the yummy yogurt ice-cream and friendliness of the staff that makes as want to go there even on rainy nights. And yes, they are the same staff since the place opened up years ago.

So anyways, after they renovated the Shanri-La Plaza branch, they also started offering new things such as the DIY cups which costs P199 - P399. And the fun part is that you can get as much ice cream (in all flavors if you like) as long as it can fit on your cup, then did I mention the sprinkles, and chocolate and caramel sauces? So anyways, we always get the smallest cup which is called the "cupful." It cost P199.

But this time around, we asked help from one of the staff. Sorry, I'm having a senior moment now and I can't seem to remember her name. However, she's the one with the cheerful face and friendliest smile. And she created a tall tower of ice cream for us--- yum! We only selected three flavors-- red velvet, cake batter and chocomint. From the rim, the ice cream was about 6 inches tall. Then daughter added tons of mallows and toffee underneath. So good but really, its hard to finish it all by ourselves (including hubby). Looking forward to more happy ice cream days (or rather nights) at Golden Spoon. :)

Ice Cream Ice Cream

This our current fave flavor from Selecta. We love, love the cookie bits. Yum!

Forget the diet and eat Selecta's Mrs. Fields ice cream now. ;)

Golden Spoon

Haven't visited this store for a very long time since they renovated their Shangri-La Plaza Branch. And it took us ages again to drop by after they opened their doors again.

We got the cup that costs P199. From that small cup, you can fill it with as much ice cream as you want, and can even mix all the flavors. Then add as much sprinkle and toppings and sauce (chocolate and caramel) and you want also. Sadly, daughter and I are too tired to do just that and all we wanted to do was sit down. But its okay since we still got a lot on our cup. I love the cake batter and kahlua flavors. Forgot what flavors daughter added.

Isang Araw Sa Rockwell

First stop was lunch. I don't know why but we only patronize a few restos whenever we go to the Powerplant Mall. And today, the chosen one is ---

We chose a table near the entrance because the last time we dined there, we were seated near the kitchen and we have this "grilled meat" smell around us after we left the resto.

Meiji's Green Tea & Red Bean Ice-Cream

Daughter and I got lucky last week when we dropped by at Jash Mart along Wilson Street, Greenhills because the "kuya" there informed me that "me new stocks ng meiji ice-cream." Wow!

*** I wasn't able to take a photo of the freezer because its not allowed

And here's what we got ...

Yabu-ness & Swensen's Day

It is not always that "I" gets to join us for breakfast or lunch or even just plain lakwatcha because of the tweenies. But today was an exception because it is Report Card Day.

I'm happy and proud to say that daughter's marks and general average are more than okay and she ranked 12th in class. Not bad, not bad. Hehe. Actually, I think its great since she studies on her own and I seldom check if she's doing her homework or not, not check if she's reviewing for quizzes/test or doing something else that she's not supposed to do. But she did well, and I'm a proud mummy!

Happy Birthday and Late Dinner at SOMS

P is celebrating her birthday today and since I made some ice-cream the previous night, I'll name the ice-cream "Merry Melon" in honor of her birthday. Gave P some ice-cream and got feedback that its yummy. Yey!

Pardon the photo, though. Earlier, I was asking my friend- N, to teach me the basics of food styling so let's wait and see. :)

Attended Fashion Week early this evening at SMX. I thought that there's a cocktail party but nada! Oh wells, glad that C mentioned SOMS. So after watching the fashion show and being introduced to Xian Lim, Gerald Anderson and Sam Pinto, off we go to SOMS near Rockwell. Luckily, its still open when we arrived which was around 10pm.

Haven't eaten at SOMS for a very, very long time and was excited to order a lot but C and I have been sensible with our orders lately. We avoid ordering too much. Besides, the servings at SOMS are good for sharing.

Thai Milk Tea. A bottle is good enough for 2 glasses. Tastes good. However, I find it lacking in sweetness. Or maybe I'm just craving for sugar?

Catfish Salad. This is my fave. Crunchy and sour at the same time. Excellent!

Yellow Seafood Curry. So good! Generous serving of squid and the 2 pcs of shrimps are not that tiny either. Thumbs up!

Perfect For The Hot Weather

Because its been super hot lately (typhoons, begone!), and also because I'm feeling a bit creative (and we still have some frozen strawberries left in the fridge), I decided to make ice cream. Daughter suggested the flavors.

Choco-Mint and Strawberry Ice-Cream.

Cookies and Cream with Mallows.

Strawberry Ice-Cream

Strawberry Ice-Cream

This is my third attempt at ice-cream/gelato-making and I can say I'm happy with the result. Daughter is happy with the result. Hubby not so much because he likes his ice-cream "sweet." Actually I think its yummy because you can really taste the strawberry bits. I also love the color although I was really a bit apprehensive when I made it because it doesn't look "pink." Luckily, it turned out nicely. :)

Au Revoir!

A few weeks ago, it was announced that Haagen Dazs will bid the country goodbye. They will be closing its doors come September 2012. All Haagen Dazs items in the grocery will be sold for half the price or even less. Time to hoard ;)

Swensen's Ice Cream

C have been raving about this ice-cream place at SM Mall of Asia for ages now and daughter and I got to taste it today for the first time.

I love food that is artistically presented. I remember what my mother used to say- when you cook, make sure that there's a blend of colors because a nice looking dish even if it doesn't taste that good WILL TASTE GOOD. But in this case, it is nicely presented AND IT REALLY TASTE GOOD!

Alas, even if I want to eat here often it is not possible because Mall of Asia is way too far from our house and it is the only branch (I think) in the Metropolis.
Who Doesn't Love M&Ms???

This is a current family favorite. Available (only) at Rustan's Supermarket (I think). Costs P143.00. Yum!

It's chocolate ice-cream with tiny m&ms and candy sprinkles. Yummy!!!
Raspberry Choco Ice Cream

The best!
Made by the popular Fruits In Ice Cream company.
Tastes heavenly specially on a very hot, hot day.
