Wan Chai Tea House

Me and my mommy-mates haven't been going out much lately because of our different skeds but when we do have time, we make it a point to bond over food and (sometimes) shopping. ;)

We were sked to go to a different restaurant today but because that resto doesn't serve dimsum, we opted to go to Wan Chai. I'm glad I told J and Ina to choose the resto this time since I wanted to taste something new. Actually, I've seen and passed by Wan Chai for so long that I think it is high time to visit it now--- and I'm glad I did. :)

Took some photos of the menu ...

And here's what we ordered --- Pork Siomai. Wasn't able to taste this, inubos ni Irene! Hahaha. Must be good. :)

Quail Egg Siomai. Yum! This is love. Well, I love quail eggs so its easy for me to love this.

Special Siopao. It was already sliced when it reached our table so I apologize for the unflattering photo. The siopao's flavorful and the sauce is quite good. Not your usual siopao sauce if I may say.

Mango Sago. Irene's fave. Hindi nag-share! Hands off kami ni Jovee. :(

Fish Congee. Super good! We didn't share this with Irene. Hahaha. ;) The congee is flavorful already. Will eat this again soon. One whole bowl for me next time.

House Tea. Free-flowing.

It was already way past breakfast time when we went to Wan Chai so we almost had the whole place to ourselves.

To sum it up, it was really a wonderful dining experience at Wan Chai. And Ina and I would like to thank J's fil (father-in-law) who shouldered our bill. He happen to eat his breakfast there and saw us. Thank you, Uncle! Xie xie ni. :)

Boracay's Hidden Gem: Mama's Fish House

I've always wanted to dine at Mama's Fish House in Boracay but wasn't able to for some forgotten reasons already. Then the pandemic happened and we're in lockdown or limited travel movement for almost two years. And guess what? One of the nicest thing to happen on our recent trip to Boracay was to discover that Mama's Fish House was located just outside the beach front of our hotel- Microtel by Wyndham Boracay . Talk about serendipity!

RECIPE: TKG's Pan-Grilled Maya-Maya With Calamansi Butter Sauce

I chanced upon some fresh-looking Maya-Maya being sold near my daughter's school today so I bought some. I don't really have a dish in mind when I bought it. Maybe fried, sinigang ... And upon checking the fridge and pantry (no more olive oil), I decided to marinate the fish in calamansi to remove the fishy taste. I pan-grilled the fish being careful not to burn it. Then I minced some garlic, cooked it in butter, added some salt and poured the sauce on top of the fish. And its ready to eat. And oh, I also steamed some cauliflower as a side-dish. Bon appetit!
