Discovering Big Bowl Noodles

A few days prior to 2017 Chinese New Year, I joined some blogger friends on a walking and eating tour around Manila Chinatown and one of the restaurants that we discovered was Big Bowl Noodles. The place was along Yuchengco Street coming from Ongpin and just beside the Kwan Yin Temple.

Despedida Dinner At Peking Garden

I've had great memories at Peking Garden especially when most of our elders were still around. But this time around, my Dutch uncle was the one who invited us for a despedida dinner. He and my aunt arrived early January and are flying back to Holland in a few days.

Streetfood Favorites At Eat Fresh

This is a belated post about our post-Christmas pig-out at Eat Fresh with my daughter and aunt. I guess we've eaten too much good food that craving for "Hong Kong" streetfood is inevitable. ;)

We usually choose our "streetfood" upon entering the restaurant because their kitchen is in front. You can see them frying a lot of sinfully oily but delicious streetfood.

Pig's Ear and Lobster Roll. I love the chewy pig's ears. My aunt and I shared this order except for the lobster roll which was requested by daughter. Costs P30-35.

Modern Shanghai

My family and I always look forward to discovering new restaurants whenever we go to SM Mall of Asia and we're happy to have dined at Modern Shanghai. It was also almost closing time when we entered the restaurant so there's also the fear that they might not treat us well but ...

NEW RESTO ALERT: Tim Ho Wan

So it took me two months before I was able to dine at Tim Ho Wan in SM Megamall after it opened last May 2014. Also, I wasn't able to try this dimsum restaurant when I went to Hong Kong last year. Tim Ho Wan became a sought-after dimsum restaurant especially after it was given a Michelin Star, thus becoming one of the cheapest restaurant's with a Michelin Star.

Wan Chai Tea House

Me and my mommy-mates haven't been going out much lately because of our different skeds but when we do have time, we make it a point to bond over food and (sometimes) shopping. ;)

We were sked to go to a different restaurant today but because that resto doesn't serve dimsum, we opted to go to Wan Chai. I'm glad I told J and Ina to choose the resto this time since I wanted to taste something new. Actually, I've seen and passed by Wan Chai for so long that I think it is high time to visit it now--- and I'm glad I did. :)

Yen Yen Taiwan Street Food

Because we weren't able to have dinner at Eat Fresh (didn't know that they're closed on Sundays!), daughter and I walked around Wilson area until we espied Yen Yen Taiwan Street Food. Now if you are familiar with Eat Fresh, you'll know that street food means food sticks. So we decided to eat at Yen Yen which is a few steps away from Santi's in Wilson.

Emerald Garden Restaurant

When we feel like having breakfast after dropping off the kids to school, this is one of our default breakfast place- the other one is Wai-Ying in Benavidez Street near Ongpin. And because today is a special day (we're off to raid DFS), we need some heavy breakfast for some extra energy. :P

There's only 3 of us today, that's me, C and J. And because there's also the need to lose some pounds before the December parties begin, we agreed to share an order of jumbo siopao (2 thumbs up!), fish congee (I like the one from Wai-Ying), and Beef Mami (thumbs up!).

Shi Lin

Daughter and I just included this on our list of favorite restaurants. Not only is the food great, but the place is nice also (sorry, forgot to take pic of the resto).  Also, and the best part about Shi Lin, prices are not heavy on the pocket. Yey! :)

Lugang

This is C's unplanned birthday treat. Actually, we're not really supposed to eat since we just plan to check the sale items at F21 in MOA but since her daughter (our foodie-mate) got hungry, they ended up in Lugang first. It's my first time to eat in this restaurant since the first branch which is in Greenhills, and we don't usually venture beyond Promenade. I love the black and metal interiors. Lovely.

Dimsum Feast At The Summer Palace

It doesn't always happen that one can enjoy unlimited dimsum at the Summer Palace unless there's a special promotion. Lucky us!

Winter Garden At The China Palace

One fine Saturday, the family (including a balikbayan aunt and a Dutch uncle) found ourselves in the highlands. The travel was really uneventful especially for me- I slept the whole nine yards. Then there's the picture-taking session with Taal Volcano as the backdrop. The ducks were missing from the pond. Did we just ordered roast duck?! Hehehe.

Roast Chicken. The kids love the kropek! ;) Well, the chicken was delicious but still, kropek is kropek especially if there are kids around.

Chinatown's Best

This buffet resto is located along Banawe Street in Quezon City and is one of the most popular and affordable buffet restos in town. It is best to secure a reservation so that you'll have a table during lunch or dinnertime as it can sometimes get crowded. Food's okay. 

Delightful Feast At Wai-Ying

Wai-Ying has been our go-to restaurant whenever we happen to go to Ongpin. The food here is really cheap but tastes great. You can order dimsum, rice meals, congee, noodles, and even duck.

Sincerity Restaurant

This is one of Manila Chinatown's best-kept secret. Really, no kidding. I remember eating at this restaurant in Nueva Street when I was still young. Then I rediscovered it again when my daughter entered Big School and the area happen to be just a short ride away.

Sincerity is known for its Fried Chicken and Honey Chicken. The only branch I know is the one in Nueva (Yuchengco) Street in Binondo. It's just about 2 blocks away from the church.

Muy Hong in Banawe

Food here tastes very, very good! Alas, its too far from my place so I don't really get to eat at Muy Hong often. It is located in Banawe, Quezon City. 

Wok Inn

I used to frequent this restaurant way back in the mid-90's. My australian boss, J, was the one who introduced me to this resto which was a few minutes walk from "our" hotel. She invited me to join her for dinner when I happen to stay up late in the office. I remember that that dinner was the very first treat that I received from a boss.

So it's a bit nostalgic to eat there again, this time with my family in-tow. I'm so glad that the original branch in Malate is still open and nothing change much in the interiors.
