Something Special

I've been on a food blogging hibernation for about the length of mercury retrograde now (glad that I have something to blame my procrastination for.. hehehe) and since it turned direct motion again, I feel renewed about food blogging again. And as a special treat, and because I got lucky to be at the right place also, I'm sharing one of Los Banos, Laguna's very yummy buko pie. It's been around like forever.

I remember that we always go to their store (the only one that time) somewhere near UP Los Banos. Our summers became much more special because of it. Imagine a child's delight after a refreshing dip in the famous hot springs of Pansol, Laguna then driving all the way up to Los Banos to feast on Lety's Buko Pie.

And since daughter doesn't have class today and we promised Popsie (my uncle) that we'll be accompanying him to Laguna, I remembered Lety's when we were on our way home. Luckily, they now have a branch somewhere near the boundary of Pansol and Los Banos so we didn't go to UPLB. On the other hand, I think we also missed the chance to explore UPLB. Oh wells, there's always another time. :)

I love the bright and cheerful yellow and green logo of Lety's.

That's my cousin-in-law, waiting for our boxes!

I remember years ago that Lety's opened a stall in SM Megamall foodcourt. Sadly, it didn't last. I guess people in Manila are much more familiar with Collette's, another famous name when it comes to buko pie. And the buko pie still tastes the same. I love it when stores, restaurants doesn't change or scrimp on ingredients just because they become famous.

Espasol. I love the box! So lovely with the peek-a-boo cover.

This is not the usual cute espasol that you can buy. These are huge espasol. However, I feel that it lacks some flavor or ingredients. I just can't remember where in Quezon can you find the yummiest espasol. But its good and filling.

Yabu-ness Monday

Finally! We were able to eat at Yabu without having to line-up nor get pressured to finish our meal quickly because of the long queue. Best time to dine is around 1pm, Monday. ;)

Had fun grinding the sesame seeds then adding sauce and chili powder. Also, it will distract you a bit while waiting for your food if you're that hungry- like me. Hahaha

J ordered the chicken katsu, 150g. Yum!

Mine's the pork katsu, 100g. So tender! Alas, I felt dizzy after eating. Either because -> fried or because -> pork. Must share next time. ;) We also love the unlimited rice (C had 2 cups, I think) and the unlimited cabbage. Love the sesame-mayo dressing!

This is shobe's order. I forgot to ask what it is but I guess its delicious because she finished the whole bowl.

Emerald Garden Restaurant

When we feel like having breakfast after dropping off the kids to school, this is one of our default breakfast place- the other one is Wai-Ying in Benavidez Street near Ongpin. And because today is a special day (we're off to raid DFS), we need some heavy breakfast for some extra energy. :P

There's only 3 of us today, that's me, C and J. And because there's also the need to lose some pounds before the December parties begin, we agreed to share an order of jumbo siopao (2 thumbs up!), fish congee (I like the one from Wai-Ying), and Beef Mami (thumbs up!).

Jumbo plate-sized Siopao. Good for sharing or if you think you can finish all of it ...

Dolor's Sapin-Sapin

I've almost forgotten Dolor's until I chance upon its newly opened stall beside Kookie Corner in Unimart, Greenhills. I excitedly chose a "bilao" of sapin-sapin that is neither too big nor too small.

Flashback early YK2: daughter's fave pasalubong from her tita R was pizza-pink! It took us several bilaos of sapin-sapin before we figured out that she calls it pizza-pink. Pizza because its round and pink because of the light-red sapin-sapin part in the middle. Hahaha. I even remember driving all the way to Malabon just to buy sapin-sapin from Dolor's. Yes, that's how crazy I can be when it comes to food.

Sapin-Sapin. Excellent!

Puto-Kutsinta (kutchinta). Looks nice. Tastes okay for me but not that memorable.

Puto-Ube. Daughter says its okay. Forgot to taste this. But judging from the empty container, I guess its more than okay. :)

84th Birthday

Had she been alive, my mother would've celebrated her 84th birthday today. But we did have a small family get-together of sorts. My aunts who are staying in Antipolo and two other aunts from Quezon as well a some cousins, nephew and nieces and an uncle visited us at home. Prepared some seafood pasta and grilled cheese sandwiches, and fruits. A cousin brought Mango Creme cake from Red Ribbon- thank you! :)

HEAT Buffet Promo

Arrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!!!! Another buffet promo and its at the Edsa Shangri-La, too. Oh my, oh my! Goodbye diet, hello Heat! ;)

Honestly, I don't think I have any food photo of Heat nor a blog post. Actually, we've dined here several times already but since the food's that GREAT, taking photos are the farthest thing from my mind. I love the seafood and dessert section. :D

E Bar

This is another long delayed post. Its only now that I realize that I haven't blog about it yet. Luckily, Heat and Summer Palace made me think about it.

E Bar is located at the second floor of Edsa Shangri-La hotel. It was a Friday when we went there and the band's playing retro music and lots of people on the dance floor. Me and my friends are just too shy to dance but we did enjoy two rounds Manila Sunrise and Chocolate Martini. Ordered Clubhouse Sandwich and Calamares for pica-pica. Had fun watching people dance and had fun getting tipsy. Hahaha ;)

Sorry, no food pics except our feet! Hahaha. It was a rainy night but since we all bought this nice magenta shoes from Payless, we decided to use it anyway. I guess wearing similar items is how we announce to the world that we are indeed getting old and that our kids are almost tweeners.

PS. Feet photo courtesy of J. Thanks! :)

Shi Lin

Daughter and I just included this on our list of favorite restaurants. Not only is the food great, but the place is nice also (sorry, forgot to take pic of the resto).  Also, and the best part about Shi Lin, prices are not heavy on the pocket. Yey! :)

Something's Brewing at The Summer Palace

Saw this on fb early today and I just wanted to share the love. Had a nice dimsum lunch at the Summer Palace last September, see blog post here. and we really enjoyed our meal. And now it's back and for the whole month of November, too. Wow!

"We are bringing it back! Savor a scrumptious dim sum buffet paired with soup, noodles and dessert prepared by Summer Palace's new Chinese Chef Christopher Chai. Usually served fried or steamed, these bite-sized pockets of seafood, meat and vegetables are well enjoyed with a warm cup of tea."
