Chicken Sibut is a chicken dish cooked in spices for a long period of time until the meat absorbs the flavor and becomes so tender that it falls off the bone. It is also a Chinese medicinal dish that is not only nourishing but promotes good health as well. Traditionally, I think this is better cooked in a claypot. Below is an easy to follow recipe that I made recently.

RECIPE: Lola Virginia's Chicken Relleno by Romulo's Cafe
Chicken Relleno is one of the food I grew up with especially when we have family gatherings or simply when my mother or aunt wanted to feed the family a special dinner. Alas, its also one of the dishes that I haven't tried cooking and of course, my mother didn't leave her recipe behind.
But thanks to Romulo's Cafe and The Maya Kitchen for sharing this Chicken Relleno recipe.

Clubbing at Lunchtime
I was a guest at the Dell Latitude Series Launch last week and venue was at the K-Pub in BGC. I am not really familiar with the place but when I googled (yes, thanks to google) it, the venue is located in the old For Strip. Gosh! I feel so old. Seems like yesterday when we made the rounds of the restaurants/ clubs there and usually went home way beyond curfew time. And such fun we have not to mention also being able to fit in Rei's mini-car.
Ban Chan or the free pica-pica. Spicy dilis, spicy tofu and spicy pickled cucumber. I like the dilis and the cucumber best. The dilis was crispy, and the cucumber explodes in sweet, spicy and sour goodness.

The Aristocrat: An Affair To Remember
Last September 8, I joined a food tour organized by the Aristocrat Group and Openrice.Ph Team. We all met up early in the morning at The Aristocrat in Malate which is the main branch. This food tour excites me as I literally grew up eating at Aristocrat with every possible occasion that my family can think of. Sometimes during birthdays, Valentine's Day, Graduation Day (almost every year since my mother was a school teacher), after watching a show in CCP or MET, Sundays, or simply any day that my family had the urge to dine there.
SPOTLIGHT: Gerard Papillon
Gerard Papillon's name is synonymous with Pamora Farm. I already saw him years ago at the Salcedo Market but wasn't able to have a chat with him because I was feeling shy then. Then I saw Pamora Farm's booth at the World Trade Center and he's there. So I was able to have a friendly chat with him about Pamora and the healthy effect of free-range (organic) chicken as compared to the commercially grown (and headless) chickens.
Mu, Share Tea And Toribox All-in-one Goodness
First stop was at Mu Noodle Bar in Wilson Street, San Juan. It's just a few steps away from the P. Guevara intersection.
Mu, in Mandarin means mother. We were supposed to dine here last Mother's Day but we forgot to make reservations and the place was full. We did manage to get a table but the place was really hot so we opted to dine at La Creperie instead.
So, here we are now, just daughter and I (my food-buddy and bff). I'm craving for some beef noodles kasi (thanks to the rain).

Interesting Resto Find In Subic
Since most of the restos that we went to are either closed or unappealing, we chanced upon this goldmine after a few missed turns (n.b. be careful when driving in subic, you can get easily ticketed!).
Koko Buri. Actually, a friend recommended this resto but the one she ate it was in Angeles City and we crossed it off our list since it's a bit far from Subic. Luckily, we found a newly opened one just a block away from Puregold Duty Free. Yey !!!
Calamares. Beer battered and double-fried to perfection. And it's so cheap too. Costs only P150 for a hefty serving. The dip wasn't that exceptional though. Two thumbs up!
Soy Chicken. This is the one-piece soy chicken. Hmmmm, looks Bon-Chon-ish! But that's where the similarity ends. The one from Koko Buri was flavorful in and out. And super crispy too. Yum yum. Single chicken order with rice plus salad (shredded red and green cabbage and honey-mustard dressing in vinegar if I'm not mistaken) only costs P120.00!!! Two pieces chicken meal costs P185. Wow wow wow. Two thumbs up.
Hopefully, we can go back there again soon. Curious to try the pizza, pasta and salad, and other stuff on the menu.
Oh, and by the way. I ordered soy chicken but was instead given spicy chicken so my friends offered to just exchange it for theirs since they know that I don't like spicy food. Then after several minutes. The waiter went back to our table with a plate of complimentary soy chicken from the Chef saying that the Chef misunderstood my order. Big thank you, Mr. Chef. Our dining experience was made truly memorable with your service-orience gesture. I believe that what you did was a rarity nowadays in most restaurants. We are happy campers indeed. :)
RECIPE: TKG's Chicken Confit
Barcelo Cafe
Conveniently located in Mendiola, Manila, Barcelo Cafe is the Culinary Kitchen of La Consolacion College. This is where the future chefs learn their trade. On most days, especially when there's regular classes (between June to March), Barcelo Cafe is brimming with people. Mostly students and faculty members of the school dine there, then there's the Malacanan employees and other students from nearby schools. The resto has a homey feel about it and the waiters are nice. Also, this is the place where one can eat without being too guilty on the allowance. A meal costs P90, drinks at P30. How cool is that?

Lechon Kawali. A big slice of liempo fried to perfection served with adobong kangkong. Uhhmmm, not that crunchy for me but tasted delish nonetheless.

Spanish Chicken. Don't ask why its called Spanish Chicken. I would've thought its a Filipino Chicken. This is a sizzling dish with some minced sayote with a generous gravy. I mean, swimming in gravy. Tastes good and tender. My daughter enjoyed this dish.

Bon Chon
I don't know why but it took us ages before we were able to taste Bon Chon. And now we're hooked! And I don't even mind the long line to the counter. This chicken-place is super super delish!
Twice-fried chicken in their special soy-garlic sauce (that's toyo & garlic) or spicy sauce is definitely a hit for all ages. Yes, really.
Must-try also is their chapchae (sorry, guys ... no photo) and french fries.

Ang Manok ni San Pedro

Actually, this lechon manok was bought from Sr. San Pedro who was the purveyor of lechon manok flavored with tanglad (lemongrass). This franchise hails from the south (Visayas).
I guess its popularity was because of the tanglad which makes it more flavorful and different from the other popular lechon manok around the metropolis.
