Mr. Moo's Barn At Il Terrazo

I don't really have plans to go to Il Terrazo tonight but daughter texted me that there's a B1T1 lamb chops promo at Rustan's Fresh so I included a short side-trip there after having dinner somewhere nearby- which is about 2km away. I walked all the way to burn off unwanted calories--- hahaha.

Anyways, after buying the precious lamb chops, I was about to go home when I suddenly had this urge to check the new restaurants in Il Terrazo. And this is what I saw .....

A Day At The Highlands

When Manila's heat becomes unbearable or simply because going on a short trip is fun--- the nearest and coolest place that we can think of is Tagaytay. Not only of the scenic views but because there are really a lot of things to do there especially if you have kids in tow.

Also, Tagaytay has a nice cool climate especially in the evenings or during rainy days when it can get really foggy. I find it nice to drive in the fog, but I will save that for another blog post in my other blog! ;)

Lunch was at the Chinese restaurant inside Tagaytay Highlands. We made an after lunch reservation so that we can eat in solitude, with only us making the noise-- hahaha.

Having lunch with the family that includes two lolas and a Dutch lolo, plus 3 kids and the rest-- mga isip bata. :P

No time to take photos. Everyone is really hungry. Attack! Fish Lip soup was served. Ewww.. not really fond of it, but it is Ola's fave so okay lang. I can see sweet and sour pork and the fried chicken. We also ordered some hakaw and siomai which was literally gone before I could take photos, plus tons of other dishes not seen in the photo.

Afterwards, we had fun at The Animal Farm. Alice got lucky because the llama is not in a bad mood, otherwise, he would've spit on her (according to the zoo keeper). I remember the kiddie film-- The Emperor's New Groove. The emperor was turned into a llama.

The kids also had tons of fun feeding the pigs and the birds, and having a "staring" contest with the fish. Even my Dutch Uncle joined the staring contest. Hahaha. Its funny because fishes doesn't have eyelids. So they sleep with their eyes open. Reminds me of Garfield having a staring contest with a fish also. Then when his eyes were already so round, Jon told him that fishes don't have eyelids. :P

Got hungry after touring the zoo, and we all needed some fresh air--- meaning aircon. So up the adults went to the bowling area (too lazy to play), while the kids were left behind at the computer room.

Ordered a not very flattering-looking turon. But I love the caramel dip. The food presentation is kinda off.

Another unflattering-looking saba-con-yelo that's so full of yellow food coloring. Well, the vanilla ice cream tasted nice. Plus its cold, so I guess it okay.

Another unflattering-looking order. The halo-halo. But it tasted better than the saba-con-yelo. I love the ube and the macapuno. Never mind the pinipig. I think I want to order another one. ;)

Ms. B's Bawai Vietnamese Kitchen Experience

Located in idyllic Silang, Cavite, Bawai Vietnamese Kitchen renders its charm not only to local residents but to the urbanites who seeks a quick-and-relaxing get-a-way from the rigors of city life. And even foodies have a lot to say about it.

And today, my friend, Ms. B, who just arrived from Tagaytay is my correspondent for Bawai. Text and photos by Ms. B :)

Breakfast and Prayers

January 16, 2013

I love unplanned breakfast dates.

C and I got lucky because her daughter has dance practice until 2pm today (no need to rush back during lunchtime). So after dropping the kids off to school, we were on our way to the south. And lucky again because there's no traffic.

This is the view that greeted us while we were waiting for our breakfast (Bag of Beans, near Tagaytay Rotonda). Such a foggy day. The air was cold but we were armed with jackets and shawls. Not-gonna-freeze-today-not-like-the-last-time!

Foggy Breakfast

Manila's been super hot lately so when C invited me for a breakfast date at Bag of Beans, I happily said yes. Luck was with with since there's no traffic on our southbound journey until we reached Sta Rosa exit. Ugh! And since we both need to be back in Manila by 12nn to fetch the kids, we decided to head back where we came from... uh oh! Luckily (again), she remembered Batino exit. So off we drove again, farther south. ....

Breakfast Goodness At Buon Giorno

A spur-of-the-moment early morning trip to Tagaytay brought C and me to Firelake Area and we remembered Buon Giorno. Luckily, it was open for breakfast when we arrived because the other restos around the area were still closed. We weren't able to secure the daybed spot so we chose a table facing Taal Lake- breakfast al fresco!

Romantic Buon Giorno

This restaurant is one of the best-kept secrets in Tagaytay. Ambiance (especially during night-time) are perfect for lovers who wants to dine al fresco. Include some candles and the right music and be ready to propose or be proposed to. Great for intimate family dinners also.

Sage Tea. This is one of my weirdest food order. I thought sage tea means, sage in tea-bags, not fresh sage leaves in a teapot. Hahaha. There's the distinctive taste of sage and I can't say that its love at first sip. But after several sips, it tasted better- not that herb(al)!

Salmon Risotto. Love! The risotto was very flavorful. No explanation needed. Good for 2 pax.

Jack Dory. Pan-fried dory with sauce and stir-fried veggies. Big portion of dory. Good for 2 pax. This dish is okay but a bit salty.

Food budget per pax is around 600-800. Restaurant located at the Fire Lake Area, just after Army/Navy and Yellow Cab in Tagaytay. We're definitely coming back!
Carabao's Milk at Its Best

I love Mr. Moo
Hubby loves Mr. Moo
Daughter loves Mr. Moo

Whenever we happen to be in Tagaytay, Mr. Moo is our default pit-stop. I don't know why it is only now that I'm blogging about Mr. Moo when in fact, we've been patronizing it since 2007. I guess I just don't want to share the secret- hahaha.

Aside from a selection of cow, carabao and goat's milk in plain, chocolate, strawberry  and ube flavors. Mr. Moo also sells quesong puti (so good!), pastillas (haven't tried this one yet), and goat's milk soap. I've tried the soap once but I can't remember if I like it or not. But I know it smells nice.

Bistro Saratoga Part 1

This is a haven for organic-food lovers. Even if you eat a lot of veggies, your body still feels light. And yes, eating veggies is healthy. So there! Also, the relaxing view of lush greens refreshes the soul.

Winter Garden At The China Palace

One fine Saturday, the family (including a balikbayan aunt and a Dutch uncle) found ourselves in the highlands. The travel was really uneventful especially for me- I slept the whole nine yards. Then there's the picture-taking session with Taal Volcano as the backdrop. The ducks were missing from the pond. Did we just ordered roast duck?! Hehehe.

These are what we ate and some others ...

Roast Chicken. The kids love the kropek! ;) Well, the chicken was delicious but still, kropek is kropek especially if there are kids around.

Highlands Cafe

I love foodtrips especially out-of-town. Its so nice to enjoy one's meal while admiring the lush greenery.

This is what I ate today. The rice was wrapped in banana leaf and I just opened it on my plate. Then I had a serving of bangus and gising-gising. So, so good!

Sizzling (Giant) Bangus. Yes, its a giant bangus. One of the popular dish at Tagaytay Highlands.

N.B. This is for sharing. Maybe up to 6 pax if you are still ordering other dishes.

Gising-gising. This dish is basically baguio beans sauteed in coconut oil with tons of chili and hint of bagoong. Yummy!

Pizza Margherita. Goodness in very bite. And its really cheap, too.

Bag of Beans Revisited

It was really part of our Tagaytay itinerary to go to Bag of Beans, but we prefer the new branch which is just nearby. Alas, we seem to have missed it completely so we ended up in the main branch which was really far from Tagaytay proper. But luck is with us since we got to try new food that we didn't order before.

Chicken pie. I'm not really crazy when it comes to chicken and pies but this is delish! Although I admit I wouldn't order this if not for my friend. But then, I would recommended this to those who are crazy about chicken and pies. note: I prefer the Sheperd's Pie but its not available when we dined there. :(

Starbucks

We love Starbucks.
We love sipping hot chocolate especially on a cold night.
We love Stabucks Tagaytay because of the cool climate.
We also love Caramel Frap, Coffee Jelly, Peppermint Mocha, Mocha Java, etc.
We also love the bagels, cakes and sandwiches from Starbucks.

Bag Of Beans

This is the branch that's almost in the outskirts of Tagaytay. Very easy to miss since the foliage and the shop's color suggests that there's nothing special to look at. Wrong!

Raising Loaf. Almost always sold up as soon as it hit the shelves (straight from the oven). Costs about a P100. I can finish a whole loaf by myself.

Pumpkin Pie. Because I'm trying to be healthy or I just miss my mother's pumpkin pie. Nothing extra-ordinary if you keep on thinking you're eating Cinderalla's carriage!

Now this is good... definitely GOOD! Shepherd's Pie is simply delish!!! See, I'm already running out of !!! Must-try @ Bag-0-Beans!!!

I love-love-love the shepherd's pie and cinnamon raisin bread!!!

Mahogany Market

A trip to Tagaytay is not complete if one will not go on a Mahogany Market tour. This market sells newly slaughtered beef (no offense meant to vegans) so one is assured that the bulalos being served in the carinderias nearby are fresh, not the frozen kind. There's a lot of carinderias to choose from but since my daughter loves purple, we have no choice but be drawn to this carinderia with purple plates! We ordered bulalo and tawilis, the usual pair of soup and fried fish.

Piping-hot bulalo

Unlimited senorita bananas for dessert

That's our "bulalo" in the food warmer!

Crispy Tawilis

Massimo's This restaurant is a haven for Italian cuisine-lovers. They also serve Angus and Wagyu Steak, and Alaskan King Crab. For starters, we were given focaccia bread with artichoke dip (bestseller). Then we moved on to pasta, fish and meat. We washed everything down with fresh dalandan juice and iced-tea. Afterwards, the temptation of peach shortcake, panacotta and gelato followed. The restaurant, named after the owner and Chef Hazel's son nestled in the highlands of Tagaytay. A few meters after Petron station, you'll see the sign leading to Massimo's. The red homey-looking house will make you wonder if you are in the right place, but upon seeing a jade-green rabbit at the foot of the stairs, this is it. The interiors are not your usual resto-setting. It's more laidback, relaxed and just right for the cool Tagaytay breeze where one can dine without being hurried. Night patrons will find romance in the candlelit ambiance of the place that also includes a quaint chandelier. Massimo's also serve wine, pizza, salad and soup. Gelatos are available in chocolate, vanilla, coffee flavors.

Blast From The Past

This is a favorite biscuit from my childhood days that I happen to see at the Canossa Weekend Bazaar in Tagaytay. It also reminds me of my paternal grandfather who loved to eat this biscuit that he even named one of his daughter--- yep, you guess it right, Jacobina. Think what happened to Anton Ego when he was served ratatouille? Deja 'vu!

So what are the foods that you remember from your childhood?

Steak It

We discovered this resto during one of our trip to Tagaytay. It's because we got tired of eating pizza and bulalo. Also, the meals costs less than a hundred bucks so its really budget friendly on a backpacker's budget. Another plus is that the food tastes great! Hubby loves the german franks and bratwursts while daughter and I prefered the steaks.

The resto also has a rooftop area which is where we always prefer to dine since you can really feel the cold Tagaytay air there. Some nights, they have a band performing pop music there.
