RECIPE: Halang-Halang

Halang- Halang is a beloved Visayan staple of chicken, coconut milk and turmeric. Chef Sandee Siytangco-Masigan of XO46 Heritage Bistro conducted a cooking demo at The Maya Kitchen. 

Ingredients: 
50 grams white onion 25 grams garlic, crushed  50 grams fresh luyang dilaw 200 grams bamboo shoots or labonf  1/2 kg chicken thigh fillet  75 grams red/green bell pepper  2 pcs red siling labuyo, chopped  20 grams basil  250 ml coconut milk salt and pepper, to taste 
Procedure: 
Saute onion, garlic and turmeric. Add labong, chicken, bell pepper and siling labuyo. Add basil and coconut milk. Simmer for 15 minutes. Add salt and pepper. 
Serves 4 pax

I've always wanted to visit Japan especially during the Sakura season. It would be nice to walk under the cherry blossoms, wearing a kimono, and carrying a Japanese parasol- hehe. Kidding aside, Japan is a nice country to visit and enjoy takoyaki and bento meals.

But now, I can enjoy the Sakura season at Tokyo Bubble Tea and eat takoyaki and bento meals.

Baguio Food Tour 2015: Mother's Garden

I do have nice memories of my first meal at Mother's Garden last year so I was happy when we were told that we're having our lunch here. You can read about my first Mother's Garden experience here.

Of course, the highlight of our meal here is the famous flower salad called- Mother's Garden Salad. The restaurant grow their own vegetables, and they also raise fowls, pigs, fish so one is assured not only of freshness but everything is organic as well.

Although new, the owners of the restaurant has been in the business for decades so you can rest assured of the superb taste of the chocolate dishes. Really, chocolate dishes.

After a very tummy-filling first day in Baguio, we all had dinner at Everything Nice Cafe at Ayala Techno Hub. We were supposed to dine al fresco at the Foodies at the Hub area but it was full so we ended up at this cafe.

Truth be told, we've (my family) been frequent visitors at this cafe for years now because we all love the desserts here (and the crinkles).

Foodies at The Hub is a two-day event at the Ayala Techno Hub inside Camp John Hay. This event is a gathering of Baguio's homegrown restaurant's and chefs. What's nice about Foodies at The Hub is that its a big picnic area where family and friends can hang-out and dine and watch a live band perform for two nights. And not only that, there's also the hourly raffle wherein diners got the chance to win GCs from participating restaurants.



The Health Benefits of Turmeric

Turmeric is a kind of ginger that is orange-y in color and found in Asia. Aside from having medicinal properties, this is also used as a dye in the olden days. In the Philippines, this is called, "luyang dilaw" and greatly favored by our grandmas especially in making "salabat" or ginger tea.

RECIPE: TKG's Pajeon

Watching tons of kdramas can really make you crave and enjoy Korean dishes and my home is not an exemption. And I love replicating dishes so here's my version of pajeon. By the way, pajeon is akin to Japanese okonomiyaki. Checking online, "pa" refers to spring onions, while "jeon" is pancake (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pajeon). This is so very easy to make and great as snack.
